Department of study of aging processes and prevention of metabolic-associated diseases
Department of Study of Aging Processes and Prevention of Metabolic-Associated Diseases of the GI "L.T.Mala NIT NAMSU" was created on January 24, 2019 under the leadership of Prof. Olena Kolesnikova in order to develop a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to age-associated diseases and methods of their prevention for a significant extension of the period of healthy human life.
Head of the Departmen - doctor of medical sciences, professor Olena Kolesnikova
MAIN SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS
- Creating a concept on the impact of factors of premature aging in the formation of different phenotypes of metabolic-associated diseases and establish their significance in the prognosis and prevention;
- Determination of genetic determinants of risk factors for premature aging in mechanisms of development of metabolic-associated diseases;
- Study of the influence of epigenetic factors, environmental factors, dietary and behavioral patterns on human epigenotype and the speed of age-related processes;
- Development of a complex interdisciplinary approach to age-associated diseases and methods of their prevention with practical application of scientific results for a significant extension of the period of healthy human life.
TASKS AND FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Development of an algorithm for determining markers of premature aging in various age groups depending on lifestyle, social status, presence of a family history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, overweight (obesity) and their epigenetic modification;
- Determination of the influence of genetic factors, epigenetic status and the state of antioxidant protection on risk factors and mechanisms of development of metabolically associated diseases;
- Assessment of epigenetic age and its prognostic value for the development of metabolically associated diseases in people of different age groups;
- Study of the course, diagnosis and treatment of metabolically associated diseases in patients of different age groups. Study of the features of the use of drugs in elderly patients;
- Development of new research methods to determine the risk of developing age-dependent pathologies, taking into account the genetic status, diet, physical activity and lifestyle;
- Development of preventive programs for patients of different age groups in order to create optimal diet and exercise to prolong the period of active longevity;
- Development and implementation of personalized algorithms for the primary prevention of metabolic-associated diseases, depending on age, taking into account molecular genetic analysis;
- Creation of a register of patients of different age groups with signs of metabolically associated diseases, including for molecular genetic studies;
- Publication of research results in the form of scientific papers, monographs, articles, preparation of methodological documents for conducting a comprehensive geriatric assessment in order to predict the risk of developing age-associated diseases, developing individual prevention programs to improve the prognosis of elderly patients;
- Study of domestic and world experience, achievements of medical science and healthcare practice to reduce the risk of developing metabolic-associated diseases in various age groups. Cooperation of scientific cooperation with European and world societies that are involved in the study of aging processes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of age-associated diseases.
Staff members of the department are regular participants in international, all-Ukrainian congresses, symposia and scientific and practical conferences on cardiology, gastroenterology, preventive medicine, gerontology.
